Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass Cases
A well made, protective case is key to ensuring that your instrument remains in good condition. Some things to consider: For violin and viola, a shaped case offers a smaller profile and lighter weight, but you sacrifice space for sheet music and accessories. An oblong case will generally be bigger and heavier, buy you’ll have plenty of room for sheet music, a shoulder rest, metronome, rosin, etc. Look for a case with "suspension design". This keeps the instrument from lying flat on its back inside the case. This is usually accomplished with two small pads at the top and bottom of the instrument’s body. For cellos, hard cases have come a long way in terms of convenience, protection, and affordability. Fiberglass cases are very popular because of their light weight, sturdy construction, and relatively low cost. Many cases now come with wheels. Something to consider, however, is that even some of the best hard cello cases are not necessarily designed for the rigors of airline travel. Special precautions should be taken when giving your cello to baggage handlers. Call us and we’ll be happy to discuss this with you. New, Extremely Light-Weight Cello Case... Only 8 Pounds!
