The Genius of Mark O'Connor

"One of the most talented and imaginative artists working in music -- any music -- today." - The Los Angeles Times

...And he's coming to the concert hall at Blackerby Violin Shop October 3rd and 4th!

His name is synonymous with American music. But Mark O'Connor, as the Los Angeles Times recently noted, has "crossed over so many boundaries, that his style is purely personal." At age 13, O'Connor was the youngest person ever to win the Grand Master Fiddler Championships competing against all ages, amateur and professional. In the forty years since, no one has done more to blend styles, knock down barriers and promote a new American Classical Music.

Mr. O'Connor is the founder and president of the internationally recognized Mark O'Connor String Camp. His decades of work with these students and others at universities and conservatories led to the creation of his widely acclaimed O'Connor Violin Method. This groundbreaking method is the first violin method to feature all American music and has been hailed by teachers from across the country as filling a significant gap in classical music education.

There may be no musician today so admired across genres... and generations. And we at Blackerby Violin Shop are thrilled to offer the opportunity to enjoy this once-in-a-generation talent in the warm and intimate confines of our concert hall. Tickets are now on sale for $45.00, an amazing price to view a world-class musician in any setting. But remarkably, this price includes two events...the Friday night concert (7:00pm, doors open at 6:30pm) and a Saturday Mark O'Connor Method presentation and improvisation workshop (11:00am). And finally, for an additional $40.00, you can attend a special VIP "meet and greet" after Friday's concert. All proceeds from the weekend's events will go to the O'Connor Method Camp Texas. As you might expect, seats are extremely limited and will go quickly. For more information and to get your tickets, call 512-469-9343 or 888-752-9688.

Joining Mr. O'Connor for the weekend will be phenomenal crossover violinist Maggie Dixon. Like Mr. O'Connor, Ms. Dixon is fluent in various musical styles including classical, bluegrass and jazz. She earned her Bachelor and Masters degrees at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and has been playing violin since the age of seven.
