Hearts in Harmony: How One Student is Using Music to Heal Texas
At Blackerby Violin Shop, we know that an instrument is more than just wood and strings; it is a tool for expression, a source of comfort, and a catalyst for healing. When we heard about the incredible work Cersei LeSage is doing for the Texas Music Project (TMP), we knew we had to get involved.
Cersei, a talented member of the Lake Travis High School Varsity Choir, is organizing the Hearts in Harmony benefit concert. The goal is as ambitious as it is inspiring: establishing a music library and music therapy initiatives at seven major children’s hospitals across Texas.
To support this mission, Blackerby Violin Shop is proud to have donated a fine instrument to be featured in the event’s live raffle. We invite our entire Blackerby family to join us in supporting this young leader and TMP project.

A Conversation with Cersei LeSage
What inspired you to start organizing this benefit concert, and why is this cause important to you personally?
I started the benefit concert originally as my "Take Action Challenge" encouraged by YWLC (a non-profit organization that teaches young girls service and leadership skills). The whole benefit concert idea had been done by alumni at their high schools and I wanted to bring that to the Lake Travis community.
Music has been a part of my life since I was little. The fact that so many amazing musicians are out there but without respective tools (instruments/lessons) makes me want to take initiative to change that, even if it’s a small impact.
Can you tell us about the Texas Music Project and how the funds raised will help children and hospitals in Texas?
The Texas Music Project (TMP) has been around for about 20 years advocating for music access across Texas. In the past, musicians like Willie Nelson and Beyoncé have dedicated CD sales to raise money for music education in disadvantaged schools.
TMP’s most recent initiative is the Music Heals program. TMP partnered with Children’s Health and is working on establishing a major music therapy program. Currently, the program includes music education lessons on preloaded iPads for kids who may not be able to leave their beds. With our help, we can expand and help even more kids across seven major hospitals in Texas.

What can attendees expect from this year’s concert?
This year’s concert will be surrounded by amazing music and delicious Italian food! Attendees can order food and drink and watch some live music. We will also be having a live raffle with instruments such as a guitar and violin [donated by Blackerby!] and gift baskets valued up to $100!
What has it been like organizing an event like this as a high school student?
Organizing an event of this size was at first very overwhelming. However, having a little prior experience from last year, I have been able to prioritize things easier and plan ahead. Now, I actually love working on this project and always get too excited with more flyer ideas or wanting to reach out for more donations.
How can the community support the concert or the Texas Music Project if they can’t attend?
I’d love all the in-person support I could get, but totally understand if people can’t be there. If you still want to donate, a Facebook donation link is in the works, and updates are posted on our Instagram: @hearts_i_n_harmony
What was the most meaningful or memorable moment from last year’s concert?
For me, the most memorable moment from last year’s concert was singing during sunset. It was a little windy and "golden hour." I was singing my heart out for people I love (family, friends, teachers) and after, many people approached me and said that moment up on stage felt magical.

What role has music played in your own life?
Music has been a part of my life since I was little. I would be washing my hands and singing or humming or dancing! I used to take voice, piano, guitar, and drum lessons. Now I mainly focus on choral music since I am a part of the Varsity Mixed LTHS choir, but I still love singing pop songs!
